AI Origins, Myths, and Impact

This unit traces the historical emergence of artificial intelligence, critically examines pervasive myths, and assesses broad socio-technical shifts such as the Fourth Industrial Revolution and Internet 2.0. Students explore the role of human–AI collaboration, study a real-world practitioner case, and prepare to apply ethical and legal frameworks in subsequent technical and applied units.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze key historical milestones and technological shifts in AI by creating a timeline that links at least six events to contemporary legal tech applications.
• Evaluate and refute common AI myths by producing a myth-versus-evidence chart with at least five myths supported by credible sources and reasoned counterarguments.
• Apply critical frameworks to assess the implications of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and Internet 2.0 for legal practice by drafting a 2–3 page brief that identifies at least three risks and three opportunities.
• Design and justify a human+AI collaboration workflow for a legal task by producing a flowchart and written rationale that specifies division of responsibilities, ethical safeguards, and expected outcomes.
