This unit deepens students’ creative problem-solving by teaching analogue reasoning and structured ideation methods (SCAMPER, inversion, Janusian) and explores the concept of creative destruction. Students will practice multiple exercises and learn to partner with generative AI to generate, iterate, and critically assess novel business ideas, preparing them to move from ideation to prototyping in subsequent units.
Learning Objectives
- analyze analogical reasoning and at least three creative-thinking techniques (SCAMPER, inversion, Janusian) to generate a minimum of five distinct business or product concepts from a given idea
- apply the SCAMPER method, inversion thinking, and Janusian thinking to modify or reframe an existing product or service and produce three actionable pivots or feature concepts
- demonstrate effective partnership with generative AI by composing prompts, iterating on outputs, and documenting refinements to expand and refine at least three novel ideas while identifying AI limitations and potential biases
- evaluate the disruptive potential of generated ideas by applying market-fit and feasibility criteria to prioritize concepts and produce a ranked action plan for next-step development
