Fundamental Java Programming Constructs

This unit develops foundational Java skills: program structure, data representation, operators, control flow, basic object-oriented design, arrays, and input/output (file and simple GUI). Students will apply these concepts to build, test, and debug console- and disk-oriented Java programs, preparing them for more advanced programming and software development practices in subsequent units.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze the elements of a Java program and explain how primitive types and binary representation store and manipulate data
• Apply operators, expressions, boolean logic, and control flow statements (if, switch, nested structures, and do loops) to implement program logic
• Demonstrate object-oriented principles by creating classes, instantiating objects, invoking methods, and organizing data with arrays to modularize programs
• Evaluate and apply input/output techniques and development tools by implementing console and file I/O, basic GUI event interactions, and debugging/testing workflows
