Production, Data, and Decentralization

This unit examines how emerging technologies and data systems reshape manufacturing, productivity, real estate, and organizational design for entrepreneurial ventures. Students explore technical concepts (quantum computing, automation, smart contracts, DAOs), sources and ethical uses of data, and the workforce and equity implications to prepare responsible business models in subsequent units.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze how emerging technologies (automation, quantum computing, smart contracts, DAOs) influence manufacturing and production workflows and quantify potential productivity gains and constraints using case examples
• Evaluate ethical, legal, and social implications of data collection, algorithmic bias, and discriminatory outcomes and propose at least two practical mitigation strategies for entrepreneurial ventures
• Apply knowledge of data sources, smart contracts, and decentralized governance to design a basic operational model that addresses physical real estate, data ownership, and automated transactions
• Demonstrate the ability to assess workforce impacts by identifying jobs likely to be displaced or transformed, and recommend reskilling strategies and organizational responses to productivity shifts
