Emerging Technologies, Markets, and Ethics

This unit examines how emerging technologies—advanced communications, tokenization/cryptocurrency, human augmentation—and shifts in energy and entertainment sectors are reshaping jobs, markets, and entrepreneurial opportunity. Students explore responsibility and ethics when mistakes or harms occur, review key sectors, and synthesize strategic takeaways to inform venture decisions.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze how energy trends, advanced communications, tokenization/cryptocurrency, entertainment, and human augmentation are reshaping labor markets and sector growth by identifying at least three emerging job opportunities and two associated risks for entrepreneurs.
• Evaluate ethical, legal, and responsibility frameworks for technology-enabled mistakes or harms (including human augmentation and blockchain systems) and propose at least two accountability and mitigation strategies appropriate for an entrepreneurial venture.
• Apply principles of tokenization and cryptocurrency to design a basic monetization model for a chosen sector (energy, entertainment, or communications), specifying token utility, value flow, and potential revenue streams.
• Demonstrate advanced communication and synthesis skills by producing a concise strategic recommendation (written or oral) for a hypothetical startup that integrates key sector takeaways, addresses workforce implications, and articulates stakeholder concerns.
