This unit teaches students how to create, organize, and maintain professional notes and how to develop and vet business names and pseudonyms. Students will practice documentation standards, legal and branding considerations, and tools for validating name availability to prepare for launching and promoting a business.
Learning Objectives
- Analyze common note-taking and documentation methods (e.g., Cornell, outlines, digital tools) and select the most appropriate method for specific business tasks with at least three supporting reasons
- Apply professional documentation standards to produce organized notes for a simulated business meeting and a research summary that meet specified formatting and completeness criteria
- Demonstrate a step-by-step process to generate and vet business names and pseudonyms, including conducting trademark searches, domain availability checks, and basic cultural/linguistic reviews
- Evaluate proposed business names and pseudonyms using criteria for branding, legal risk, memorability, and target-audience fit, and defend a final selection with a written justification
