Interpersonal Communication and Presentation Skills

This unit builds on foundational communication skills to deepen students’ ability to plan, adapt, and deliver messages across interpersonal, team, and public contexts. Students will practice negotiation, conflict management, audience analysis, presentation structuring, interviewing, and networking strategies while preparing for more advanced leadership and project-based communication in subsequent units.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze audience characteristics, purpose (conveyance vs. convergence), and context to design focused messages and a clear 1-2-3 presentation structure
• Apply negotiation, feedback, and conflict-resolution tactics — including anticipating objections and preparing for interviews — to reach agreements and manage crises effectively
• Demonstrate interpersonal and presentation techniques (voice control, metaphor use, self-disclosure, questioning, and networking) by delivering a structured presentation and participating in a mock interview
• Evaluate personal and team communication strengths and weaknesses through self-assessment and role definition, and propose an action plan to create a more open, human-centered communication environment (including appropriate use of automation)
