Refining Interview Messaging & Presence

This unit advances students from introductory job-search skills to focused interview preparation, emphasizing concise messaging, nonverbal presence, and strategic practice. Students will learn to tailor responses to employer needs, rehearse using a structured model, and handle common and special interview challenges professionally.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze personal strengths, experiences, and employer research to construct and refine a concise elevator pitch and 3–5 targeted speaking points for a specific role
• Apply effective verbal and nonverbal communication techniques — including conveyed enthusiasm, appropriate eye contact, posture, and controlled gestures — during role-played interview scenarios
• Demonstrate a structured interview strategy by mapping the interview/hiring cycle, using the Big Interview 3-Part Model to organize responses, and practicing answers to common and special-challenge questions
• Evaluate interview performance by identifying common mistakes and mindset barriers, implementing targeted practice routines, and adjusting language and behavior to maintain professionalism and confidence
