C# Object-Oriented Programming Essentials

This unit develops core C# object-oriented programming skills and advanced language features needed to build secure, maintainable applications. Students will work with methods, access control, inheritance and polymorphism, interfaces and delegates, exceptions, generics, I/O and basic UI fundamentals (Visual Studio, XAML, binding) to prepare for larger application development and deployment in subsequent units.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze and compare static vs. instance methods, access modifiers, and argument-passing techniques (named parameters, ref/out), and apply appropriate choices to control encapsulation and object behavior.
• Implement class hierarchies using inheritance, polymorphism, interfaces, and delegates, and create/consume structs, enumerations, indexers, and custom exceptions to model real-world problems.
• Demonstrate reading and writing application data using streams and serialization, apply generics and variance correctly when working with collections, and handle errors securely and robustly.
• Design and build basic user interfaces and application scaffolding using Visual Studio, XAML layout and binding concepts, and follow secure coding practices for desktop/UWP and simple web app scenarios.
