AI Prompting Foundations

This unit introduces the core concepts and practical skills for writing effective AI prompts across text, image, audio, and conversational applications. Students learn to set up and manage AI tools, identify use cases and limits, and apply ethical, legal, and risk-aware practices to prepare for more advanced prompt engineering and specialization in later units.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze different types of AI (text, image, audio, conversational) and compare their capabilities, limitations, and typical use cases for digital content, customer service, and branding given real-world scenarios.
• Apply prompt design principles to create, test, and iteratively refine prompts that produce effective text, visual, and audio outputs, demonstrating measurable improvement in clarity, relevance, or fidelity.
• Demonstrate how to set up and manage AI tool accounts, configure usage and cost controls, and select appropriate AI writing and creative assistants for tasks such as UX optimization, video enhancement, and customer service workflows.
• Evaluate ethical, legal, and operational risks (including terms of service, data privacy, bias, and tasks AI cannot replace) and propose mitigation and upskilling strategies to support responsible, AI-informed work practices.
