Advanced C++ Programming Techniques

This unit builds on foundational C++ skills to introduce modern language features, common libraries, and tooling that support robust, reusable programs. Students will work with lambdas, templates, containers, file I/O, memory and state management, algorithms, and development/debugging workflows (including Boost and IDE tools) to prepare for capstone application development.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze and refactor C++ code to incorporate lambda expressions, assignable stateless lambdas, user-defined literals, and template parameterization to improve modularity and reuse.
• Apply STL containers, iterators, and algorithms (including random-access operations and find) along with container-copying techniques to implement efficient data manipulation and file-copying tasks.
• Demonstrate safe file and I/O handling by opening, reading, writing, copying, moving, and renaming files while managing ios flags, performing numeric and type-safe conversions, and implementing robust error checking and exception handling.
• Evaluate and implement memory, type, and build-management practices — including freeing raw pointers, designing class hierarchies and templates, using move semantics and typedefs/pack expansions, and configuring/debugging applications and third-party tools such as Boost in IDEs.
