Copilot Design and Business Value

This unit explores how to design and scope Microsoft Copilot solutions for real workplace problems, contrasting customizing existing Copilots with building stand-alone copilots and introducing Copilot Studio. Students will evaluate real-world use cases, map a proposal-generation process into Copilot requirements, measure potential business value, and assess ethical risks to prepare for prototyping and implementation in subsequent units.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze technical and organizational trade-offs between customizing an existing Microsoft Copilot and developing a stand-alone Copilot, citing at least three decision criteria (e.g., integration cost, maintenance, control, data requirements)
• Apply Microsoft Copilot Studio workflows to configure a prototype Copilot component that integrates one internal data source and defines at least two prompt flows demonstrating response customization
• Demonstrate mapping of a proposal-generation business process into a Copilot requirements document, including inputs, outputs, user roles, data sources, and a step-by-step interaction flow
• Evaluate ethical considerations and measure potential business value for the proposal use case by performing a basic risk assessment and quantifying at least two value metrics (e.g., estimated time savings, projected error reduction, or ROI)
