Content Strategy and Information Architecture

This unit guides learners through auditing existing content and assets, creating a usable content strategy, and translating that strategy into content models and an organized information architecture. It builds on foundational user research and technical context from earlier units and prepares students to create wireframes, prototypes, and usability tests in subsequent units.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze existing content inventories, stakeholder requirements, technical constraints, and analytics to identify content gaps, redundancies, and reuse opportunities
• Apply content strategy principles to define content goals, target audiences/personas, voice and tone, editorial workflows, and governance plans
• Demonstrate the ability to design content models, templates, metadata schemas, and taxonomies that support findability, consistency, and scalability
• Evaluate and construct information architecture artifacts (sitemaps, navigation schemes, and user flows) that align with user needs and the content strategy, justifying design decisions with research and data
