Foundations of Flutter Development

This unit introduces students to the core concepts, tools, and language constructs needed to begin building mobile apps with Flutter and Dart. Students will set up the development environment, learn Dart basics (functions, classes, inheritance), compose widget-based UIs, and implement simple interactivity and animations to prepare for more advanced app projects.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze the roles of hardware, software, and development tools in the Flutter workflow to select and configure an appropriate environment for building Dart/Flutter apps
• Apply Dart programming constructs (functions, variables, classes, and inheritance) to create reusable code and custom widgets used within Flutter applications
• Demonstrate composition of user interfaces by nesting Rows, Columns, and common widgets (e.g., FloatingActionButton, Switch) and implementing basic input handling and state changes
• Evaluate and implement simple asynchronous behaviors and animations (e.g., wait operations, animated transitions) to enhance app interactivity and prepare a working prototype
