This unit introduces foundational client- and server-side web development technologies—HTML5, CSS, JavaScript (including jQuery), PHP, and MySQL—covering document structure, styling, forms, images, DOM/events, basic OOP, and database concepts. Students will also learn debugging, secure coding fundamentals, and how to plan dynamic, data-driven pages so they can build, test, and prepare more advanced applications in subsequent units.
Learning Objectives
- Analyze and construct semantic HTML5 page structures and CSS styling (including forms, images, and responsive layout) to produce accessible static web pages
- Apply JavaScript and jQuery to manipulate the Document Object Model, implement event-driven behavior, and identify and fix client-side errors
- Demonstrate fundamental PHP programming skills, including control flow, basic object-oriented concepts, use of libraries, and integration with MySQL for persistent data storage
- Evaluate common web application vulnerabilities and employ secure coding and database interaction practices (such as input validation and prepared statements), and plan dynamic features using AJAX, MVC patterns, frameworks, and templating for later units
