This unit advances front-end and back-end web development skills, covering HTML5, CSS, JavaScript (including jQuery), PHP, and MySQL while introducing security and debugging practices. Students will also evaluate server and framework choices, perform basic deployment tasks, and prepare an application database and scaffold for continued development.
Learning Objectives
- Apply HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript (including jQuery) to build interactive web interfaces with forms, media playback, events, and DOM manipulation using browser developer tools to debug and optimize code
- Demonstrate server-side programming in PHP by implementing control structures, text functions, magic methods, and cookie handling while applying secure coding practices to mitigate common web vulnerabilities
- Create and manage MySQL databases and user accounts, using the mysqli library to perform CRUD operations and construct searches, and design an application database schema to support a sample web application
- Evaluate server options, compare MVC and other web models, and justify framework and deployment choices (including scaffolding, WordPress installation, content storage, and server tuning) for a given project scenario
