This unit introduces students to the pathway to medical school by helping them assess fit for the profession, plan college coursework and extracurriculars, and understand the application timeline and MCAT basics. It builds on foundational biomedical exposure and prepares learners to create concrete timelines, study strategies, and application materials used in subsequent units.

- Analyze personal motivations, strengths, and barriers to attending medical school and produce a prioritized action plan with milestones and timelines
- Evaluate several medical career paths by comparing required education, typical timelines, daily responsibilities, and long-term outcomes in a written comparison
- Apply academic planning strategies to map a four-year college plan that includes required coursework, GPA targets, research/clinical experience milestones, and MCAT preparation schedule
- Demonstrate understanding of the medical school application process and MCAT by completing a mock AMCAS timeline, drafting an extracurricular portfolio plan, and creating an MCAT study/testing timeline
