Production, Post, and Distribution Practices

This unit advances foundational filmmaking skills into full production and delivery workflows, covering on-set practices (lighting, sound, camera, safety, stunts), crew and talent management (contracts, continuity, scheduling), and technical post-production deliverables (mixes, titles, textless masters). Students will also explore distribution, festival strategy, and professional relationships (agents, labs, sales) to prepare work for public exhibition and release.

Learning Objectives

• Apply production management skills to develop a shoot plan that includes a budget, schedule, crew/talent contracts, continuity procedures, backups, and safety protocols for practical and stunt effects
• Demonstrate technical proficiency with lighting, exposure, stabilization, microphone technique, filters, shooting formats/resolutions, and in-camera effects by executing camera and sound setups that meet project specifications
• Analyze legal and professional requirements by preparing and evaluating talent agreements, investor contracts, location/release forms, and lab/backup workflows to ensure compliance and protect production assets
• Evaluate post-production and distribution options by producing final mix and title/textless masters, identifying appropriate festival and sales channels, and creating a targeted plan for online and physical distribution
