Finalizing and Promoting Recordings

This unit guides students through the final stages of a home recording project: mastering, creating release-ready deliverables, and planning distribution and promotion. Students will also consolidate essential recording tips into their workflow to improve future sessions and build a professional release package.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze final mixes and identify at least five mastering adjustments (e.g., tonal balance, dynamic control, stereo image, loudness targets, and noise reduction) needed to meet release standards
• Apply mastering processes and export standards to produce a release-ready stereo master plus two alternate file formats, including correct use of limiting, dithering, and embedded metadata
• Demonstrate the ability to assemble a complete finished-product package by creating stems, alternate mixes, cover art, and properly formatted track metadata/ISRC for distribution
• Evaluate distribution and promotion options and develop a documented release plan that selects at least three distribution channels, outlines three promotional tactics, and incorporates ten recording workflow improvements into a session checklist
