Classroom Management and Professionalism

This unit equips first-year teachers with practical strategies for managing classroom behavior, building collaborative and equitable learning environments, and navigating professional relationships with students, parents, and staff. It also addresses professional conduct—such as handling observations, referrals, parent conferences, online presence, dress, and self-care—to prepare teachers for sustained success and the next unit on instructional planning and assessment.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze classroom incidents and student behaviors to select and justify appropriate evidence-based management strategies and determine when to refer students for professional intervention or escalate to administration.
• Apply strategies for creating equitable, safe, and collaborative learning spaces by designing and implementing at least two classroom routines or physical arrangements that promote inclusion and student collaboration.
• Demonstrate professional communication and conflict-resolution skills with parents, colleagues, and supervisors by conducting role-played parent conferences, staff interactions, and post-observation responses that adhere to school policies and ethical standards.
• Evaluate and develop a personal professional-growth plan that addresses online presence, appropriate dress, time-management, self-care, and ongoing development, including at least four actionable steps with timelines.
