Forensic Evidence Integration and Analysis

This capstone unit brings together comparative, toxicological, biological, and trace-evidence methods to solve complex investigative scenarios. Students refine laboratory workflows, interpret multidisciplinary data, and produce professional forensic reports that support investigative decision-making and courtroom communication.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze and interpret comparative and trace physical evidence (glass, fibers, paint, soils, tool marks, and impressions) to establish links between suspects, objects, and scenes using laboratory microscopy and comparative techniques.
• Apply forensic toxicology and drug-analysis principles to detect, identify, and interpret common and uncommon poisons and controlled substances in simulated biological and environmental samples.
• Demonstrate proper forensic laboratory procedures including evidence collection and preservation, chain-of-custody documentation, microscopy, fingerprint comparison, DNA sample handling, and preparation of admissible exhibits.
• Evaluate complex case scenarios by integrating biological, chemical, physical, and documentary evidence to construct investigative conclusions, write professional case reports, and prepare clear expert communication suitable for stakeholders and court testimony.
