Advanced Geospatial Integration

This capstone unit integrates advanced GIS tools, diverse data sources, and network analysis to validate, visualize, and operationalize spatial solutions. Students synthesize model testing, noncartographic outputs, ethics and privacy, and workforce applications to prepare for deployment and continued study in geospatial professions.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze and integrate multi-source geospatial data (e.g., Copernicus, USGS EarthExplorer, Google Earth Engine, WorldClim, SEDAC, INEGI) to create interoperable raster and vector datasets suitable for analysis and service publication
• Apply network analysis and routing techniques—including turns, intersections, traffic directing, and spatial digital twin concepts—using GIS toolsets (e.g., GeoServer, AutoCAD Map 3D, Global Mapper, ERDAS IMAGINE) to solve real-world spatial problems
• Demonstrate model and product validation by testing geoprocessing models, performing accuracy assessments, collecting and incorporating user feedback and crowdsourced data, and producing noncartographic outputs for stakeholders
• Evaluate ethical, legal, and privacy implications of geospatial data use, and articulate career and workforce development pathways for responsible practice in open-source and enterprise GIS environments
