RC Integration and Workshop Safety

This unit focuses on selecting, installing, and integrating remote control (RC) systems with autonomous behaviors, sourcing parts from common suppliers, and applying lab and electrical safety best practices. It builds on foundational robot design and programming skills and prepares students to safely construct and commission functional robotic systems for capstone work.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze trade-offs between remote-control and autonomous control strategies and justify hybrid design choices for a given robot task
• Apply safe workshop and electrical procedures, including proper cutting, drilling, soldering, capacitor discharge, and personal protective equipment use, to avoid common injuries
• Demonstrate correct selection, installation, and configuration of RC system components and connectors using industry supplier documentation and project constraints
• Evaluate vendor options and part specifications (mechanical, electrical, and cost) and select appropriate components to meet a defined robot design requirement
