Enterprise Data, Software, and Sustainability

This unit examines how successive waves of computing and enterprise software enable data-driven solutions in science, medicine, and business, with a focus on sustainability and organizational ecosystems. Students explore data treatment, governance, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and the ethical/brand implications of tech-for-good initiatives to prepare for designing scalable, responsible systems in the capstone unit.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze the historical waves of computing (personal computers, client/server, enterprise software) and assess their implications for enterprise architecture and business strategy in sustainability-focused projects
• Apply principles of data treatment, quality, governance, and privacy to create a data handling plan for a real-world use case (e.g., medicine, recruiting, or scientific research)
• Evaluate organizational ecosystems, leadership roles (including C-suite responsibilities), and cross-disciplinary collaboration needed to implement and scale tech-for-good initiatives while considering ethical and brand impacts
• Demonstrate interdisciplinary problem-solving by developing a scalable, privacy-conscious proposal that leverages enterprise software and data practices to address a sustainability or health-related challenge
