Foundations of Generative AI Tools

This unit introduces students to multimodal generative models, text-generation tools, and AI-powered educational tools. Learners gain hands-on practice using and evaluating these tools for accuracy, bias, and appropriate classroom or professional applications, building foundational skills needed for later units on prompt engineering, model tuning, and deployment.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze the core architectures, capabilities, and common use cases of multimodal generative models (text, image, audio) and differentiate when each modality is appropriate
• Apply text-generation tools to create, edit, and refine written content using prompts, templates, and basic parameter controls, documenting inputs and observable output behaviors
• Demonstrate the selection and integration of AI-powered educational tools by designing a simple instructional activity or support resource that leverages generative AI
• Evaluate generated outputs and tool choices for accuracy, bias, privacy, and ethical considerations, and propose mitigation strategies appropriate for classroom and professional contexts
