Managing Resources and Maverick Insights

This capstone unit focuses on practical resource management for new ventures and synthesizes entrepreneur case studies to build real-world skills. Students will study Chapters 12 and 13 on business resources, analyze interviews with practicing entrepreneurs, and produce an integrated action plan to prepare for future entrepreneurial work.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze categories of business resources (human, financial, physical, informational) from Chapters 12 and 13 and identify at least three concrete examples of how each impacts business operations.
• Evaluate resource-allocation decisions by comparing strategies described in the Meet a Maverick profiles (Claire Silver and Larisa Barbu) and chapter case examples, identifying strengths, weaknesses, and improvement opportunities.
• Apply resource-management techniques to develop a one-year resource plan for a hypothetical small business that includes staffing, budget, and technology needs with measurable targets and timelines.
• Demonstrate synthesis of unit learning by producing a final action plan (1–2 page written plan or 3–5 minute presentation) that integrates lessons from the entrepreneur interviews and chapter content and outlines next steps for business growth.
