Emerging Digital Technologies and Risks

This unit develops students’ practical understanding of contemporary digital technologies — including AI, cloud, 5G, IoT, blockchain, and metaverse concepts — and how these technologies are applied in business settings. Learners will explore career and entrepreneurial implications, practice safe and ethical use of data and tools, and prepare to plan technology-enabled solutions in subsequent units.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze the history, capabilities, and workplace uses of artificial intelligence and related tools, citing specific examples and potential business impacts
• Apply concepts of cloud computing, 5G, voice interfaces, Internet of Things, blockchain, and tokenization to propose at least two technology-enabled business solutions or improvements
• Evaluate personal and organizational digital footprints, privacy risks, and security threats (including AI-specific concerns) and design a prioritized mitigation plan
• Demonstrate responsible use of at least two introductory AI or cloud tools to complete a business-focused task, documenting procedures, ethical considerations, and safety best practices
