Core Java Programming Constructs

This unit develops foundational Java programming skills covering data types, control flow, methods, simple classes, arrays, and basic error handling while using IntelliJ IDEA. Students will practice reading and validating input, decomposing problems into methods and classes, and using IDE tools to write, test, and debug programs in preparation for more advanced topics.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze and select appropriate Java primitive, wrapper, and enum types to represent data accurately and explain precision and size trade-offs
• Implement control structures (if, switch) and nested loops and use arrays to process sequences of input and compute results
• Design and implement methods and simple classes, applying static and instance members, parameter passing, and return values to decompose programs
• Demonstrate defensive coding and basic exception handling techniques and use IntelliJ debugging and testing features to detect and fix runtime errors
