Python Tools and Data Structures

This unit expands foundational Python skills by teaching error handling, package and module management, data manipulation, file I/O, developer tools, and simple user interfaces. Students will practice building, documenting, and debugging programs using IDEs, notebooks, TkInter, and system resources to prepare for more advanced application development in the next unit.

Learning Objectives

• Demonstrate robust error handling by implementing try/except/finally blocks, raising and defining custom exceptions, and explaining exception flow in Python programs
• Apply Python’s modular ecosystem by installing and importing external packages, inspecting package contents, and generating developer documentation with tools such as pdoc
• Analyze and manipulate data and I/O by performing string slicing and searching, iterating and modifying lists (including implementing stacks and queues), and reading/updating files and presenting tabular output with PrettyTable
• Develop and debug simple user-facing applications by building a TkInter GUI, executing and profiling code (including use of hardware acceleration when appropriate), and using IDEs, editors, and notebooks to document and troubleshoot programs
