Practical Prompting and Integration

This unit develops practical prompt-engineering skills and hands-on use of ChatGPT’s multimodal, audio, and embedding capabilities to produce targeted outputs (e.g., customer responses, resumes, tutorials, and visualizations). Students will also explore UI/model selection, aggregation/embedding workflows, and the legal, ethical, and reliability issues that affect real-world deployment, preparing them for advanced application and system integration in subsequent units.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze ChatGPT user interface options, model selection, and multimodal/audio features to determine the best configuration for specific instructional or workplace tasks
• Apply prompt-engineering techniques—including prompt basics, chaining, structure manipulation, data injection, and style specification—to produce accurate, task-specific outputs such as customer service replies, resumes, and tutorials
• Demonstrate integration skills by embedding ChatGPT into other software, combining AI aggregation strategies, and creating multimodal prototypes or data visualizations using charts, infographics, and audio prompts
• Evaluate legal, ethical, and reliability considerations (copyright/IP, misinformation, humanization, and educator use) and modify prompts or workflows to mitigate risk and uphold professional standards
