This capstone unit synthesizes prior cybersecurity concepts to prepare students for advanced incident response, threat hunting, and automation in real-world environments. Students will integrate technical skills, documentation practices, and ethical/legal considerations to detect, contain, and remediate automated threats and prepare for ongoing professional work or further study.
Learning Objectives
- Analyze simulated network and system logs to identify indicators of compromise and prioritize security incidents based on impact and likelihood
- Apply automation and scripting tools to triage, contain, and remediate identified threats within defined service-level timeframes
- Demonstrate the development and execution of an incident response plan, including evidence preservation, stakeholder communication, and coordinated remediation actions during a tabletop or simulated exercise
- Evaluate post-incident findings to perform root cause analysis and recommend technical, procedural, and policy improvements while addressing ethical and legal implications
