Systems Integration and Clinical Review

This capstone unit synthesizes core anatomy and physiology concepts across the musculoskeletal, nervous, cardiovascular, digestive, endocrine, sensory, and reproductive systems, emphasizing applied topics such as parturition, digestion, respiration, sleep, and aging. Students will consolidate identification and functional skills, practice clinical reasoning with case clues, and prepare for continued study through targeted review and study strategies.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze how the musculoskeletal, nervous, cardiovascular, digestive, endocrine, sensory, and reproductive systems interact to produce integrated physiological processes such as swallowing, breathing, parturition, sleep regulation, and age-related change
• Apply anatomical and physiological knowledge to explain the mechanisms behind specific functions and clinical signs (e.g., saliva and swallowing, stomach function, autonomic control of respiration, pregnancy changes) and interpret related diagrams and models
• Demonstrate accurate identification and functional description of major bones, joints, muscles, and sensory structures using labeling, palpation, and case-based activities
• Evaluate clinical case scenarios and assessment data to identify likely system dysfunctions, justify probable causes, and recommend appropriate basic interventions or study-remediation steps to prepare for advanced coursework
