Emerging Tech and Cyber Risk Management

This unit examines how emerging technologies (IoT, smart cities, and early quantum computing) reshape threat landscapes and regulatory expectations, and presents enterprise-level risk management frameworks and tools. Students will study standards (NIST, SEC), encryption/cryptography, defensive tools, and public‑private coordination to prepare for hands‑on application and incident response in the final unit.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze security vulnerabilities and common attack vectors associated with the Internet of Things, smart city infrastructures, and converged physical‑digital systems by performing threat modeling on representative scenarios
• Evaluate applicable standards, frameworks, and regulations (including the NIST Framework and emerging SEC cybersecurity requirements) to determine organizational compliance gaps and reporting obligations
• Apply risk management principles and cryptographic tools to develop an organizational mitigation plan that addresses technology‑specific risks (IoT, quantum impacts) and prioritizes controls
• Demonstrate identification of common cyber threats, targets, and defensive tools and produce a cross‑sector cooperation recommendation that enhances economic resilience and incident readiness
