Windows 11 Essentials and Navigation

This unit introduces foundational Windows 11 skills including interface navigation, file and app management, basic connectivity, and core security practices. Learners will perform hands‑on tasks (desktop customization, Start menu/taskbar use, backups, accounts, printing, email, and simple troubleshooting) to prepare for more advanced OS administration in subsequent units.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze the Windows 11 user interface and system components to identify desktop elements, Start menu and taskbar features, window controls and sizing, drives, folders, and file types using lab-based tasks
• Apply file and application management procedures to open, save, print, convert to PDF, record the screen, browse and edit pictures, and operate Notepad and Outlook in a classroom environment
• Demonstrate setup and configuration tasks by creating and managing local and Microsoft user accounts, connecting to networks and an ISP, installing/configuring printers, and configuring File History backups
• Evaluate basic security and troubleshooting scenarios by interpreting permission prompts, using Windows Security tools, locating lost windows/files, and following safe practices for email, internet use, and AI features (Copilot/photo enhancements)
