Prototype, Debug, and Deploy

This capstone unit guides students through building a simple web application from algorithmic design through implementation, debugging, deployment, and iteration. Students will combine string manipulation, HTML form handling, basic Ruby scripting, research-based debugging, and feedback-driven improvement to produce and present a working project.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze programming tasks by decomposing problems into ordered steps, selecting appropriate data representations (e.g., string operations versus structural logic), and separating core functionality from presentation concerns.
• Apply HTML and basic Ruby to construct a functional website and a simple form-based text formatter, demonstrating correct markup, input handling, and string-processing techniques.
• Demonstrate systematic debugging and testing practices by using developer tools, online research, and stepwise verification to locate, document, and fix defects in code.
• Evaluate deployment and user-feedback cycles by collecting and synthesizing stakeholder responses, iterating on code based on feedback, and communicating project outcomes and lessons learned to peers.
