From Page to Premiere

This capstone unit prepares students to move a play from final draft through rehearsal, promotion, and production readiness. Students learn practical rehearsal strategies, marketing and submission techniques, craft principles that underpin great plays, and study influential playwrights to inform their own work.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze rehearsal and premiere workflows to produce a practical production timeline and identify solutions to at least five common staging or performance challenges
• Apply promotional and submission strategies by creating a complete marketing packet (press kit, synopsis, promotional copy, and sample submission materials) aimed at securing a production or workshop opportunity
• Demonstrate playwrighting mastery by revising a scene to incorporate at least five hallmarks of great plays and justify those revisions in a written director’s note
• Evaluate the work and methods of ten influential playwrights to develop a personalized emulation plan and annotated reading list that informs future play development
