Responsive Layouts and Styling

This unit advances learners’ front-end skills by teaching CSS layout systems (positioning, Flexbox, Grid), responsive techniques (media queries, viewport units, responsive images), and core styling concepts (selectors, specificity, typography, colors, gradients). It also introduces JavaScript fundamentals for DOM traversal and interactivity, HTML structure and accessibility best practices, and validation/debugging workflows to prepare students for building robust, accessible, and adaptive web pages.

Learning Objectives

• Apply CSS positioning, Flexbox, and Grid techniques along with media queries and viewport units to create responsive page layouts that adapt across devices
• Analyze and resolve styling issues by applying selector types, specificity and inheritance rules, and by validating CSS and HTML against standards
• Demonstrate JavaScript fundamentals—functions, loops, DOM traversal, event handling, and Web Storage—to add interactive behavior and update page content dynamically
• Evaluate and implement accessible and semantic HTML practices (including alt text, table semantics, accessible media, and proper character encoding) to improve usability for diverse users
