Java Programming Fundamentals

This unit introduces students to the Java development environment and core programming concepts. Students will learn Java syntax, control flow, methods, basic object-oriented design, common data structures and simple algorithms, and receive introductory exposure to concurrency and GUI concepts to prepare for deeper application development in subsequent units.

Learning Objectives

• Apply Java development tools and environment setup (JDK installation, editor configuration, compilation and execution) to create and run console-based Java programs.
• Demonstrate proficiency in Java programming fundamentals including variables, arithmetic and boolean operators, control structures (while, if/else), methods, and exception handling by producing correct and documented code.
• Analyze and implement object-oriented programming concepts—classes, static members, inheritance, abstract classes, inner classes, and packages—to model and solve problems.
• Apply fundamental data structures and basic algorithms (arrays, ArrayList, LinkedList, Maps, recursion, and sorting) and summarize introductory concepts of threads, functional programming, web services, and JavaFX event-driven components to support further study.
