Interactive Web Components and Node.js

This unit develops students’ ability to build reactive, styled, and testable JavaScript applications across client and server contexts. Students will work with component lifecycles, directives, reactivity, DOM manipulation, and front‑end frameworks while applying Node.js core modules, streams, file I/O, Express routing, and basic database interaction to support back‑end functionality.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze component lifecycle events, directives, and reactive data patterns and apply lifecycle hooks to manage state and side effects within Svelte and Vue components
• Demonstrate DOM manipulation techniques including forms binding, conditional rendering, loops, class components, refs, and transition animations to create responsive, user-driven interfaces
• Implement server-side JavaScript solutions using Node.js core modules to create and manage buffers, writable and duplex streams, file I/O, networking, and Express middleware and routes, and perform basic database operations with Mongosh
• Evaluate and apply development workflows by writing dev scripts, creating and running unit tests, using version control (Git), and handling exceptions and errors to maintain and debug applications
