This unit advances hands‑on studio skills for capturing and shaping performances across acoustic, electronic, and percussion sources while emphasizing session management, signal processing, and creative editing techniques. It also prepares students for professional release and promotion by covering licensing, distribution formats, marketing tactics, and long‑term data-care practices.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze and select microphone types, placements, and accessories for piano, strings, drums, percussion, horns, and room ambience to achieve targeted tonal and spatial results.
• Apply signal‑processing and creative production techniques — including compression, side‑chaining, amp simulation, tape saturation, distortion, doubling/tripling, looping, transposition, and level automation — to enhance musical emotion and maintain a natural human feel.
• Demonstrate professional session workflow by organizing tracks, performing overdubs, capturing electronic instruments (MIDI, e‑drums), transferring and backing up project data, and preparing stems for mixing and distribution.
• Develop and present a release and promotion plan that addresses licensing, digital and physical distribution options (including free downloads and CD pressing), audience engagement strategies (email newsletters, podcasting), and basic care/maintenance of microphone equipment.
