Designing AI-Enhanced Instruction

This unit guides teacher candidates to design, adapt, and assess instruction that leverages AI to promote active, inquiry-driven, and collaborative learning across modalities. Students will move from understanding pedagogical models to producing AI-generated learning assets, formative and summative assessments, and inclusive lesson plans for in-person and remote settings.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze active learning, problem- and project-based, and inquiry-centered instructional models and map specific AI tools and strategies that promote higher-order skills aligned to Bloom’s Taxonomy within a cohesive lesson sequence
• Apply differentiated-instruction principles by designing at least two AI-generated customized learning activities or assets (e.g., adaptive worksheets, branching scenarios, multimedia prompts) tailored to diverse learners including special education and English language learners
• Demonstrate the creation and implementation of formative and summative AI-supported assessments (auto-graded quizzes, performance tasks, rubrics) and interpret resulting data to make evidence-based instructional adjustments
• Evaluate and adapt a lesson plan for both in-person and distance delivery, justifying design decisions that support collaboration, relationship-building, accessibility, and inclusive practices using AI tools
