Foundations of Classroom Practice

This unit provides foundational skills for first-year teachers focused on professional identity, classroom management, and effective interactions with school stakeholders. Students will learn to design routines, create lesson and assessment tools, manage records and digital platforms, and communicate professionally with administrators, colleagues, and families to prepare for more advanced instructional responsibilities.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze differences between real-world and school-world expectations and justify professional boundaries and behaviors that align with school policies and ethical standards
• Apply school rules and administrative procedures to develop a classroom management plan that includes clear expectations, age-appropriate consequences, duty responsibilities, and strategies for varied academic levels
• Demonstrate the creation of a standards-aligned lesson plan, a transparent grading system, and daily recordkeeping using a digital learning platform
• Evaluate and practice professional communication strategies for interacting with administrators, coworkers, and parents, including handling common health and behavior concerns and making a positive initial impression
