Foundations of Instructional Design

This unit introduces core principles and practices of instructional design, including alignment, learning classification, design frameworks, delivery modes, and the instructional development process. Students will learn to perform needs analysis, use Bloom’s Taxonomy to write measurable objectives, and prepare design decisions that support collaboration and assess instructional success.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze core principles of instructional design (alignment, frameworks, delivery modes, and the development process) to determine appropriate planning considerations for a given learning need
• Apply Bloom’s Taxonomy to classify learning goals and construct clear, measurable instructional objectives
• Demonstrate a basic needs analysis by developing targeted SME questions and identifying learner characteristics, constraints, and success criteria
• Evaluate instructional-design options and select strategies that support learner collaboration, intended outcomes, and measures of instructional success
