Auditing, Governmental Accounting, and Exam Prep

This unit expands foundational accounting knowledge by focusing on audit procedures and technology, state and local government accounting, taxation basics, financial analysis, and accounting changes. Students will also develop CPA exam strategies—covering licensure requirements, test weighting, scheduling, accommodations, task-based simulations, and personalized study plans—to bridge classroom skills with professional expectations.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze audit planning and evidence-gathering by selecting appropriate audit procedures and sampling techniques and applying audit technology to document findings in task-based simulation scenarios
• Apply governmental and public-sector accounting principles to record transactions, account for fund adjustments and accrued interest, and implement accounting changes for state and local government entities
• Demonstrate the ability to compute and interpret key financial metrics by calculating financial ratios, applying double-declining-balance depreciation, preparing basic individual tax computations, and correcting accounting errors through adjusting and closing entries
• Evaluate CPA exam and licensure requirements by comparing credential pathways, interpreting test weighting and scheduling, requesting special accommodations when appropriate, and developing a timed study plan that incorporates task-based simulation practice and follow-up review
