Advanced Valuation and Reporting

This capstone unit integrates advanced present-value valuation, complex accounting measurements, tax computations, and professional responsibilities to prepare students for CPA exam essentials. Through applied problems and reporting scenarios, students synthesize skills from prior units to analyze transactions affecting financial statements, taxes, and ethical compliance.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze and compute present and future value problems using the effective interest method for bonds, leases, pensions, and debt restructurings, and interpret their effects on financial statement accounts
• Apply accounting measurement and reporting procedures for investments, deferred taxes, stockholders’ equity, statements of cash flows, interim and segment reporting, and partnership accounting to prepare compliant financial disclosures
• Demonstrate correct preparation and computation of individual tax returns (Form 1040), apply taxation rules for property and sales, and assess employer versus contractor responsibilities affecting payroll and tax treatment
• Evaluate professional and legal responsibilities, federal securities rules, secured transactions, liquidity and solvency metrics, and ethical considerations to recommend appropriate accounting treatments and present accurate personal and business financial statements
