Advanced Investigations and Justice Careers

This capstone unit integrates complex criminal case studies, courtroom procedures, victim services, and career pathways within the law and justice pathway. Students synthesize investigative techniques, legal/ethical issues, restorative and juvenile justice responses, and professional roles to prepare for advanced coursework, work-based learning, or entry-level employment.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze high-profile and historical criminal cases to identify investigative techniques, evidentiary challenges, and patterns in organized or violent crime
• Evaluate legal and ethical issues—such as suppression of evidence, victims’ rights, and capital punishment—and justify prosecutorial or defense strategies in simulated pretrial and trial scenarios
• Apply restorative justice principles and juvenile justice interventions to scenario-based cases, recommending appropriate diversion, counseling, or supervision plans with supporting rationale
• Demonstrate knowledge of law and justice career roles by matching job duties (e.g., probation officer, crime analyst, victim advocate, court reporter, legal assistant) to real-world tasks and producing a career pathway portfolio or simulation
