Cells, Tissues, and Body Systems

This unit explores the continuum from cellular structure and division through tissue specialization to integrated organ systems, covering nervous conduction, cardiovascular mechanics, respiration, digestion, excretion, lymphatic and reproductive anatomy and physiology. Students build vocabulary and diagnostic awareness (ECG concepts, mnemonics, system interactions) to prepare for clinical application in subsequent units.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze cellular structures and processes (including mitosis, meiosis, chromosomes, nucleus, and metabolism) and explain their roles in growth, repair, and reproduction.
• Demonstrate knowledge of tissue types and the musculoskeletal system (ossification, muscle contraction, accessory structures such as hair, nails, and glands) and relate structure to function.
• Apply anatomical and physiological principles to trace and compare the pathways and functions of major systems—nervous (neurons, impulses), cardiovascular (chambers, conduction), respiratory, digestive, urinary, lymphatic, and reproductive.
• Evaluate clinical and diagnostic concepts (cardiac conduction/ECG basics, lymphatic function, homeostatic regulation) and accurately use appropriate anatomical and medical terminology and mnemonic strategies to communicate findings.
