Designing Strategic Automations

This unit advances students from awareness to practical design and leadership of automation initiatives by combining human-centered frameworks, technical architectural thinking, and organizational change strategies. Learners examine use cases (IT service management, RevOps, generative AI), evaluate integration and orchestration approaches, and prepare actionable proposals that consider people, process, and technology impacts.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze process workflows and a provided IT service management use case to identify and prioritize at least three automation opportunities using the Jobs-to-Be-Done framework
• Apply the humble checklist and other simple design techniques to draft a concise automation proposal for a hypothetical process that balances machine capability and human oversight
• Evaluate architectural styles, integration fragmentation, and orchestration building blocks to recommend a technical approach for implementing a platform-based generative AI or RevOps solution, citing trade-offs
• Demonstrate leadership and change-management strategies by creating a stakeholder communication and training plan that addresses career-path shifts and organizational mindset needed for automation adoption
