Integrated Body Systems & Pathophysiology

This unit examines structure, function, and common pathophysiology across major human body systems, emphasizing integration from cellular mechanisms to whole‑system responses. Students will connect genetics, the cell cycle, and immune molecules to tissue repair and disease, and apply system knowledge to interpret physiological cycles and basic clinical scenarios in preparation for advanced applications in Unit 4.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze the anatomical structures and physiological functions of the integumentary, skeletal, muscular, cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, immune, reproductive, and nervous systems, correlating specific structures to normal function and common pathophysiologic changes.
• Apply cellular and molecular concepts (cell cycle, genes, and immune molecules) to predict how disruptions influence tissue renewal, disease progression, and the maintenance of homeostasis.
• Demonstrate understanding of neural transmission and sensory system function by describing action potential propagation, synaptic signaling, sensory transduction, and autonomic responses such as the stress (fight‑or‑flight) reaction.
• Evaluate clinical scenarios by identifying major bones and skeletal muscles, interpreting cardiac cycle events and gas exchange processes, and recommending basic prevention or intervention strategies for integumentary, muscular, and digestive pathophysiologies.
