Interactive Projects with Sensors and Sound

Students extend foundational block-based coding skills by adding audio, visuals, variables, and sensor-driven behavior to interactive projects. This unit emphasizes design thinking (brainstorming and flowcharting), iterative development (save, test, debug, and enhance), and transferring code to a micro:bit for real-world testing and sharing.

Learning Objectives

• Apply block-based coding techniques to add and trigger audio assets (recorded and library sounds) and enhance scenes with sprites and backdrops
• Create and use variables and conditional logic to read micro:bit temperature data, display readings, and indicate a frozen/not-frozen state
• Demonstrate effective iterative development practices by saving work, testing, debugging programs, transferring code to a micro:bit, and improving the gadget based on test results
• Evaluate project plans through brainstorming and flowcharting and share completed programs with peers for feedback
